WHY LIFESAVING?

Lifesaving is a skill. Pretty much like swimming, it is both a life skill and survival skill. Beyond that, it is a rescue skill. It is like how one would imagine from its title, lifesaving; further to saving one’s own life, one saves another’s life. So why pick up lifesaving? We give you three reasons.

First, lifesaving is the essential knowledge you will need in times of emergency. As the first responder on scene, it hurts to feel helpless and not know what else to do besides call the emergency services. With basic lifesaving knowledge, you will be able to help bridge the time from incident trigger to emergency service arrival. This gap is often the most important as it affects subsequent victim recovery outcome. More so, it is important to know how to react appropriately to conditions without endangering one’s life.

Second, lifesaving is advanced personal water safety and swim skills development. As a lifesaver, you will develop advanced water survival skills, learn the conditions leading to pool emergencies and pick up remediation methods. This puts you in a position to prevent incidents from happening or the power to act to ensure not only your own safety but also that of others.

Third, lifesaving certifications are the pre-requisites to getting a lifeguard job. If lifeguarding is your dream job or you just want some extra cash part-timing, then these certifications are a must-have. Moreover, for some professionals such as outdoor adventure specialists, divers, marina or water themed park staff, these certifications will definitely value-add to your endeavour.

Whatever the reason, we say knowing one more is never too much. Make lifesaving a part of your next swim progress plan.
